Sanzhi Water Bamboo Festival
The beautiful scenery of Sanzhi District, with its hilly terraced fields, is unique. Its abundant water and fertile soil provide perfect conditions for growing water bamboo, which are white and smooth and are also known as "Beauty's Legs of Sanzhi." Every year in the late fall, the production of water bamboo in North Taiwan starts, and the local government takes advantage of the production season of this agricultural product to hold the "Sanzhi Water Bamboo Festival" or the "Beauty's Legs Festival", which is a lively event year after year, making this agricultural product the most important agricultural specialty of the North Coast. The water bamboo is also called "foot white shoots" in Fulao/Hokken dialect because, according to legend, in the feudal society, women used a long white cloth to wrap their feet, and the feet wrapped in this white cloth over the years were naturally thin and white. In addition, because of this legend, the thin and white bamboo shoots are also called the "beauty's legs".
